My encaustic paintings are made from natural materials, beeswax blended with tree sap (damar resin) to harden the wax. Unlike traditional media, where the artist is working wet to dry, with the encaustic medium, the artist is working hot and cold using a torch as a kind of paint brush liquifying the materials under the flame. The creative process is mesmerizing, as there is a kind of alchemy that occurs when the medium shifts between the solid, the opague, the translucent and the liquid states.
