Katy Zappala
Featured Artist
Katy grew up in Boston, doodling with cartoons a bit. She attended Western Reserve University in Cleveland to study botany and took one life drawing class. After settling in Santa Barbara in 1976, Katy worked at UCSB in Biological Sciences as a buyer of everything from frogs to centrifuges. Until she retired in 2001, ceramics, spinning, weaving, and photography kept her creative juices flowing. On a whim in 2003, she took Cathy Quiel’s beginning watercolor class at SBCC Adult Ed. She has continued taking classes in pen & ink with watercolor with Tom Henderson and life drawing and portrait with Valori Fussell. Thanks to Adult Ed’s amazing teachers, Katy discovered a new world and passion.
