Kelly E. Parmenter’s September show, Places I Love, is her debut exhibit at Gallery 113. All her paintings depict places that hold deep meaning to her. She especially loves visiting—and therefore painting—mountains, lakes, oceans, and gardens. You will see paintings of her favorite vacation spots in Hawaii, the Eastern Sierra, and the Channel Islands, as well as her beautiful Santa Ynez hometown.

Kelly’s preference is to work with thick oil paints and palette knives to create impasto paintings using a wet-on-wet technique. She likes contrast, bold colors, layers, and texture to depict a certain energy she sees and feels.

Kelly’s formal education is in mechanical engineering. Her love of the natural environment has driven her career to focus on clean energy and energy efficiency in the built environment. While her technical work centers on practical solutions, her artistic expression invites an imaginative escape and reminds us of the beauty in our surroundings.
