Maureen Murdock is a black-and-white art photographer who finds deep resonance in the desert landscapes of Taos, Joshua Tree National Park, and Death Valley National Park. These places share a stark, meditative drama that comes fully alive in black and white—where light, shadow, and form reveal the essential nature of the land.

The photographs presented here are from her series Sacred Spaces: Ritual Places, an exploration of the desert as a site of stillness, transformation, and quiet presence. Stripped of color, these images emphasize texture, scale, and the passage of time, inviting viewers into a contemplative experience of the natural world.

Murdock is also the author of the best-selling book The Heroine’s Journey and six other works exploring myth, psychology, and the feminine journey. Her visual art reflects similar themes of introspection and transformation. Her portrait series Changing Woman: Contemporary Faces of the Goddess can be viewed on her website.
