Creative outlets have been a lifelong pursuit of Sandy and she turned to oil painting in 2005. She immediately won her first award with her third painting and knew she had found the direction and purpose of her creative drive. She avidly pursues increasing her skills through self-study and workshops with many notable plein air landscape artists, such as Matt Smith, Kathleen Dunphy, Paul Kratter, and Phil Starke. With her dedication to painting, she has been a juried and invited artist to many esteemed shows. Her passion for the visual arts has led her to serve on the board and be an active member of many art associations and on the City of Santa Clarita’s first Arts Commission.
As a native Californian, the landscape of the West, particularly the unspoiled open spaces of the coast, desert, valleys and mountains are her favorite subject matter. She is especially intrigued by the play of light and shadow and the mingling of warm and cool hues, which captivates her heart and provides the catalyst for her to put paint to canvas. Sandy believes at the heart of creating memorable art is the ability to reveal to the viewer what wonder lies in the everyday world around us and she invites you to take a closer look.
